PPE detection is when a computer vision model recognizes the people in a camera feed and classifies the protective equipment on them. In Colt AI, this is a feature that automatically verifies the presence of equipment such as hard hats, vests, gloves, and safety glasses.
In short: the system goes one step beyond "there is a person here" and answers, in real time, whether that person is wearing the required equipment.
Why it matters
PPE gaps are a common risk factor in workplace safety. Manual inspection -- a safety officer walking the floor -- can only happen at set intervals and can't provide continuous coverage.

How it works
The process starts with a live feed from existing IP cameras or CCTV systems. Deep learning models process every frame, first detecting people, then the objects on them -- hard hats, vests, gloves, safety glasses.
If a required piece of equipment is missing, the system flags it as a violation and sends an instant alert to safety managers via dashboard, email, or mobile.
